I am drawn to the people, places and moments that make me stop and pay attention — the character of a landscape, the energy of a city street, a quiet interaction between people, or the unexpected beauty of an ordinary moment.
Working primarily in oil and acrylic, I explore a range of subjects, from Canadian landscapes and expressive studies of nature to figurative, animal and contemporary scenes.
My approach combines observation with an appreciation for the possibilities of paint. I am interested not only in accurately representing a subject, but also in capturing atmosphere, movement, emotion and the feeling of being present in a particular place or moment.
Landscape has become an especially important part of my work. I am inspired by the Canadian landscape and by the tradition of artists who have interpreted it in bold and individual ways. At the same time, I enjoy moving beyond landscape and allowing different subjects, techniques and ideas to shape each painting.
For me, painting is both observation and exploration. Every work offers an opportunity to look more closely, experiment with colour, and find something worth sharing.
I hope the paintings invite you to pause, look again, and perhaps see something familiar in a new way.
