Stuart Curtis is an Ontario artist working primarily in oil and acrylic. His interest in art began with a fascination for drawing, painting and creating images that communicate something about the world around us. Over time, that interest developed into a serious commitment to painting and to continually expanding his skills and artistic voice.
Stuart studied at the Academy of Realist Art in Toronto, where he developed a strong foundation in drawing, composition, colour and traditional painting techniques.
His work has been exhibited in galleries, juried exhibitions and group shows, and has received recognition in a number of art competitions and exhibitions.
While Stuart's training gave him a strong appreciation for observational painting and technical skill, his interests continue to evolve. His current work ranges from expressive landscapes and Canadian scenes to figurative subjects, animals and contemporary everyday moments.
Stuart is interested in what happens when careful observation meets the freedom of paint. Some paintings begin with a particular place or scene. Others begin with an image, an idea or simply something that catches his eye. The common thread is curiosity — looking closely, experimenting and finding a way to translate that experience onto canvas.
Stuart's work has been featured in juried exhibitions and group shows, including exhibitions at Headwaters Arts Gallery and Westmount Gallery.
His work has also received recognition in art competitions and exhibitions.
In 2020, he achieved second place in the Hollowvid Virtual Art Show through Beaux Arts in Brampton and was one of the 10 finalists in the N3XT National Arts Competition.
Stuart is a current member of Headwaters Arts and a former member of the Colour and Form Society.
